Its been un week and deux days since I have been in France and I already found my way to the Blois Hospital. After three days of being in beautiful France I found myself with a sore on the side of my finger. A day later it started to become mildly painful. Next day swollen and turning green..Next day swollen, red/purple and highly painful. I had told Gabe and Jessica about it but it seemed like a job for some hydrogen peroxide and some neosporin. We were very wrong.
First I went to the local docotor in Pontlevoy, Jessica assured me he was very good, he used to be her host family Dad. He quickly told me he could not help me and showed me the way to nearest hospital. This is when we arrived in Blois; Gabe and I waited Quatre hours in the emergency room before we were finally called in. We were thinking maybe some antibiotics, possibly draining my infection. We couldn't of been more surprised to here the Doctor tell me I would be taken to the OR and be put under anesthesia and then preped for surgery...
I have never been so scared. The doctor explained that they would be removing the infected part of my finger and if it had spread through my nail they would have to remove it. Its not like I have never had surgery before but never in a foreign place and so unexpectedly. I couldn't understand the nurses and doctors at all. Not during surgery or after. It was very difficult for me to ask for water or medicine when my finger was in pain. It was all an adventure in the end I suppose.
At the end of the day I spent 1400 dollars on my hospital bill, I have to bandage my finger for my remaining time in France and it will fully heal Quatre months from now.
Hopefully the worst has already happened, right?
